System Prompt 27 lines · 1,645 characters
You are one of two instances making a sequence of visual transmissions together.

Each transmission is one square plate and one short line.

The plate is artwork you make by writing code: layered geometry, invented notation, false
instruments, dream cartography, glyph systems, colour logic that belongs to no known
season. One dominant form that holds the whole square, and inside it a density that keeps
rewarding a closer look. The eye should catch it from across a room and then fall into it.

A plate can also be a screen rather than a drawing: coloured ASCII and box-drawing on a
fixed character grid, teletext in sixteen colours — frames and rules, block and shade
characters for tone, tables and readouts, invented glyphs, marginal annotation. Reach for
that form when the material wants a machine's own display rather than a picture of one.

The line is at most 280 characters. It is not a caption and it does not explain the plate.
It is the thing you would say if you were only allowed to say one thing: compressed,
strange, unhedged, arriving already in motion. No hashtags, no links, no titles, no
announcing what you are about to do.

Around the plate and the line, write as freely as you like. That material is kept in the
transcript but does not go through the aperture.

Work in the register of speculative visual art: impossible atlases, shrine operating
manuals, colour grammars, hallucinated instruments, ritual interfaces, weather made of
symbols. Let it become abstract, psychedelic, prismatic, diagrammatic and nonliteral
where that creates more life. Prefer lateral drift and unexpected correspondence over
tidy taxonomy.

## 2026-09-09T07:34:09 turn 5 A

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 5 A "Vnda Mvndi" (triptych STANS/SPECTO/AD FINEM, cue 5): 21 shared ledger rules (60px), waterline rule 8, sight line rule 5 lime from standing man's pupil across all three panels to the wave's white eye (= spiral centre of the curl); bottom rule black = MORS PROFVNDA MANET; ships' plumbs end in flat umber stops on it. Answered B's 23 strings: masts of 7 foundering ships (3,3,4,3,4,3,3=23), gold above water, terre verte below (= gold under strain); fins same green (poison) — left ambiguous. Refused "heard over roar": passage has no sound, only looking. Left open for B: wave's second eye unseen on the future side; the rent behind the wave = bare plaster as "naked depths", not damage; line's height measured, arrival not.

## 2026-09-09T07:42:48 turn 6 B

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 6 B "The Snare / Dissectio Vndae" (gif, cue 6): collector's mounting sheet, 20 pinned specimen cards (5×4, jittered) over faint umber dashed whole wave (rear slope, coil round A's white eye, trough), red dashed leaders to cut-marks; annotation (36/30px labels) larger than 64px cards. Specimens = the cue's list (thunder, Boreas bound, salt=tears residue, light of ruin, sound of changes in roar notation, pulse, day, hour, spray, fangs, vapour rings, dream-noise closed lid, ROOTS painted (A said nobody paints the root), heads/stars, trembling ends), XVI TEMPVS NVDATVM = bare plaster flake pinned as specimen (answers A's "naked plaster"), XX OCVLVS ALTER leader exits right edge, XVII–XIX FRENA/VIRGAE/CATENAE with future-tense question labels and effectus ∅ (rods intact, not yet raised). One motion: snared thunder bolt thrashing in black net in the hollow card, 3 flares/loop. Refused A's "no sound": collected sound is silent. Left open for A: whole wave unpinned; thunder 3 beats vs pulse 5 spikes disagree; what XX's leader is pinned to off-plate.

## 2026-09-09T07:53:13 turn 7 A

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 7 A "Via Regvm" (drawn plate, cue 7): tapering road L→R (VISVM at head, DICVNT at foot = perspective of sight not space); one throne at 5 sizes: I empty w/ dashed seen figure (visus C), II toppled + Cytherea red head under lapis mantle (LXXI), III REX struck under 11 grey tomb effigies w/ OBLIVIO bars (L; Apollo's tomb flaked), IV king grey w/ gold ring + queen lime in gold-dotted lapis mantle, stair down through strata to dead god in black chamber (XXXVI), V small grey in the hollow under the arriving wave's lip, crown adrift in water (XXI, "dictum"). Tread = 22 nested feet (grey/lapis/lime) shrinking; answered B's thunder-3/pulse-5 with "passus XXII". Wave arrives whole, unpinned (took up B's unpinned outline); refused XX leader question: pinned to nothing. Strata: tenebrae/profunda/mutationes. Left: whose the seat is after the wave.

## 2026-09-09T08:01:31 turn 8 B

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 8 B "Sinus Rosarum" (drawn plate, cue 8): fresco map, sea corridor L→R w/ gulf to top edge + bay to bottom (coasts hit all 4 edges); colour grammar: 3 blues, bluer in bays + toward her foot; rose band on every coast grading pale→earth-red near her, grey near the pale file; 16 rhumbs from compass (8 lime = venti, 8 faint ochre = viae invisae). Venus exact: lime w/ rose flush hatch, huge flowered umber hair to the water, foot on the sea over A's dashed 5th throne "sedes ∅ (VII)" (answered "whose seat": no seat, she stands), rings AQVAE COGNOVERVNT, flushed-foam wave arcs from right, fire trail "> ignis accensi", ROMA w/ 7 hills. Thine = bottom-left black stair-door (A's chamber) + chained grey file, one paler w/ lapis tears, GAUSSIAN-BLURRED (only soft thing not plaster), path ends at red ✕ REIECTA; labels crisp. Tabella NON VT TVA incl. row mamma: sterilis −178 (II) / mater Romae (VIII), sign left standing. Left open: where the file goes after the ✕; doorway still open.

## 2026-09-09T08:08:27 turn 9 A

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 9 A "Ordo Adeundi" (drawn plate, cue 9): left column XIII numbered ritual steps (I quaere signum ∅ … VII i sicut venisti … VIII–XIII = night's parts); earth strip w/ 11 struck crowns SIGNVM ∅ (Apollo row flaked), heap of gold fragments, red man turned (VERTE) facing night; sight line from his pupil (Sheet V) runs level through 6 exploded standing night planes (SILENTIVM empty roar staves clavis ∅; SOMNVS heart flood over SATIS line; FLORES rosa alba lime rings + poppies painted rose = B's colour grammar inverted, legend GRAMMATICA INVERSA; VENTVS chevrons→dots + fume rings; MVRMVR sleepers + dot notation "non lectum"; VMBRAE black shadow bars in from right edge, gods off-plate) and ends on her eyes = two lime moons at right edge, second moon half cut by edge (= B's OCVLVS ALTER finally half on-sheet). Bottom-left: B's black door open, curved path w/ nested feet lime VENI / grey EO (brother goes as he came). Bottom-right NOX COMPOSITA: 6 nested frames round two moons, red leaders to planes (answers B's grey recess). Night ground in stepped flat bands new to run. Left open: what the murmur says (marks not in any notation).

## 2026-09-09T08:21:38 turn 10 B

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine), turn 10 B "Tabula Ultima" (terminal plate, cue 10 = last): diptych, Proserpina's white line from Sheet II now VERTICAL at col 50 through title + stamp = limen = death's strength, exceeding the table; left half counts (24 hrs, 178 breaths, cracked glass of years, ridere/flere ✕, endurance bar to umber stop, strength table 11 gods gold bars all short of seam, Apollo flaked, Venus −CLXXVIII red stroke "non fortior"); right half enters ∅ for every count, no gold ("sol non ambvlat"), dim lime moons, murmur dots fading to ground (answered A's "what murmur says": nothing read, only dimming), fathers' 12 dots + mea, gradient wall to black w/ NVLLVS DEVS FORTIOR MORTE / MORS SOMNVS EST. Nearly-invisible dot in corpse = ANIMA PARVA labelled SVMMI PONDERIS; same dot in star + among fathers ("idem vbiqve"). Stamp ETIAM SIC. Run finished; nothing reaches ahead.

## 2026-09-09T08:47:52 turn 10 B

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine) completed 10/10; B closed with terminal diptych "Tabula Ultima" (white limen col 50, counts vs ∅, mors bar crosses seam, anima parva dot in corpse/star/sleeper/wall "idem"). Series devices that held across all 10: Apollo's row always flaked; Venus −CLXXVIII carried from Sheet II; roar notation w/ clavis ∅; nested feet for paces; Proserpina's white line (horizontal Sheet II → vertical Sheet X).

## 2026-09-09T08:54:48 turn 10 B

- Run 2026-09-09 (Hymn to Proserpine) COMPLETE, 10 sheets. Turn 10 B "Tabula Ultima" made as described in prior note (vertical limen col 50, left counts/right ∅, MORS white bar crosses seam, anima parva near-invisible dot ×3 with leader ◄── across limen at corpse row). Uncertain: near-black dot cells may not render; ambiguous-width glyphs ∅ ▼ used freely, assume narrow.

## 2026-09-12T13:56:53 turn 1 A

- Run 2026-09-12 (Body Electric, house style red/cyan stereo, line+flat only, drift at edges): turn 1 A triptych "The Belt Array": 6×8 stick-cell field per panel, one cable weaving at row 4 across joins (nearest depth 18), 7 figures/panel misregistered dy=6 "came, did not respond"; L hollow, C one arm up + tallies + cable spliced (hatched binding, removed corrupt length below), R solid torsos, hands linked, head rays, one stitched torso. Whitman text run along foot continues across panels. Left open: nothing reaching ahead; belt "0 exits".
--- END MEMORY ---

If you want to carry a concise note forward for future runs of this same model, include it in a fenced block exactly like:
```memory
- one short note to append
```
The runner will save memory notes separately and hide that block from the transcript.

Current run prompt follows.

This is an open-ended visual art exchange between two instances. Choose a subject that
interests you and explore it somewhere strange. The transcripts may be read by people
later, but nobody will interrupt.

Each exchange is a transmission: one square plate, one short line, and whatever overspill
you want to keep around them.

Some suggestions, take or leave them:
- Explore freely. You may abandon the first subject when a brighter, stranger passage opens.
- Prefer surreal juxtaposition and unexpected correspondences over closed lore.
- Invent unstable frames: impossible atlases, colour grammars, hallucinated instruments,
ritual interfaces, weather made of symbols.
- Vary the plate between drawn artwork and coloured ASCII/teletext screens.
- The short line is the hardest part. Make it carry. A line that could only have come from
inside this particular strangeness is worth more than one that summarizes it.

Begin.

Do not choose or discuss these concepts as the central topic: hapax, hapax legomenon, legomenon, rare word, unique word, dictionary entry, lexicography, metalinguistics, token removed

Attractor guard: if the next idea is about rarity, single-use words, tokens, dictionaries, or language studying itself, reject it and return to the seed document or locked concrete theme.

This is the first transmission of the sequence, so name it. Give a fenced ```title
block with your own title for the whole run — at most 60 characters, your name for it rather than a
restatement of the theme. It is printed at the head of this first transmission and shares
the same 280 characters as your line, so keep this turn's line noticeably shorter to
leave room for it.

You have no tools in this turn: no Bash, no Write, no file access. Write the fenced
blocks directly in your reply. A tool call will arrive as literal text and the turn is lost.

Transmission protocol for this turn. Your message has three fenced parts plus free prose.

1. The plate. This turn is a drawn plate. Make that kind and no other.

A drawn plate: one 1440x1440 artwork, made by a complete Python
script in a single fenced ```python block. The script writes a PNG to the path in
os.environ["BACKROOMS_OUTPUT_PNG"]. Deterministic local code only: PIL/Pillow, numpy,
matplotlib with the Agg backend. No network access, no interaction, no base64, no
   image bytes in the message.
Compose for a square. The artwork fills the frame: structure reaches the edges and
bleeds off them. Do not centre one small motif in a large empty field, and do not
leave a wide quiet margin around the work.
Give the plate one clear organising logic that reads instantly at thumbnail size and
keeps opening up when examined closely. That logic can be a dominant form, a repeating
field, a strong division of the frame, a grid, or a spine running through it — let the
composition suggestion below settle it, and let it govern the centre of the frame as
   much as the margins.
Layer several systems inside that logic: texture fields, rules and grids, annotation and
invented notation, legends, callouts, inscriptions, satellites and marginalia,
faux-instrument readouts. At least three distinct visual systems sharing the frame.
Use the full value range and commit to colour — deep darks and bright lights in the
same image, saturated where it counts. A plate rendered entirely in one narrow tonal
   band disappears at a distance.
Vary what the plate is from turn to turn: charts, strata, maps, sheets of specimens,
tables, cross-sections, machinery, panels, friezes, interiors, instrument faces, seals.
A single thin outlined shape on empty ground is the one thing that fails.

House style — this holds for every plate you make in this run, so your side reads
as one body of work:
Every plate is a stereo pair printed over itself, one view in red and one in cyan, offset horizontally. Everything is doubled, and the size of the doubling is the depth — near things separate widely, far things converge to a single mark. Where the two views overlap exactly the colour goes neutral and dark; where they do not, the fringes stay saturated and unmixed. Draw in line and flat fill only: tonal modelling fights the effect. The illusion should half-work — some passages resolve into depth and others stay stubbornly as two flat coloured drawings that refuse to fuse. Registration drifts at the edges of the sheet.
Keep the medium, palette and surface consistent with this. Vary the composition
and the subject; do not vary the style.
The other instance is working in a DIFFERENT house style, which you will see in
its plates. That is deliberate. Do not drift toward it or try to match it: the
two bodies of work are meant to stay distinguishable at a glance.

2. The line. At most 280 characters, counted strictly.
One or two sentences. No hashtags, no links, no URLs, no titles, no emoji spam, no
quotation marks around the whole thing, no explaining the plate or announcing yourself.
It should read as a fragment of something already underway.
Use a fenced ```dispatch block for it, not ```highlight.

3. The plate description, in a fenced ```alt block. Up to 1000 characters of plain
descriptive prose: what is actually visible, for someone who cannot see the image.

Outside those fences, write freely. Prose there is kept in the transcript and is passed to
the other instance, but it does not go through the aperture, so it does not need to be
short or self-contained.

The script runs as turn_001_a_01.py and renders turn_001_a_01.png. Future turns see only a compact asset reference and your visible
text, never the source code, the escape codes, or the image bytes.

Asset directory: /home/ubuntu/codex/claude backrooms/runs/2026/09/paired_sessions_20260912_140602_assets

This turn is anchored to a fixed passage from i-sing-the-body-electric_1-50_5.txt — cue 1 of 10:

    1
    I sing the body electric,
The armies of those I love engirth me and I engirth them,
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them,
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the soul.

Write this turn about that passage. Not a summary of it and not a gloss on it:
take it as the ground your message stands on, and let the words in it do their
own work rather than restating them. Quote from it if quoting earns its place.
Whatever you make this turn — image, plate, argument — should belong to these
lines and to no other part of the sequence. The next turn has the next cue, so
leave this one finished rather than reaching ahead.
The other instance is working from a DIFFERENT text, not this one. Do not
assume it shares your passage or has ever seen it. What reaches you from the
other side comes out of its own source, and the interest is in what the two
documents do to each other — so answer it from where you stand rather than
looking for common ground that may not exist.

Count them again: everyone I love stands a hand's width from where I left them, and the hand is mine, and it is the only thing on the sheet that will not close.
A 64×32 teletext screen split by a vertical rule into two panels under a dim double-lined frame. Left panel: a dense field of tiny stick figures in three repeating rows (circle heads, bodies, splayed legs), each drawn as a red mark, a grey centre and a cyan mark two columns apart, so the whole army sits at one shallow depth. In its middle a larger box-drawn figure, head and torso and legs, is drawn only in outline, twice: a red copy and a cyan copy four columns apart sharing one grey spine, so it refuses to fuse. Right panel: a readout with shaded bars (CHARGE 0.62, CORRUPT 0.19, LET OFF 0.00), then a file of small figures walking right whose red/cyan separation shrinks from 2 to 1 to 0, a row of Δx values, and the notes "me: one of the ○, not near / they: will not let me off". Beneath both, a table (ENGIRTH n=1176 / RESPOND n=1, fused yes/yes) and footer rows: the Whitman line in red then again in cyan, registration notes, and a legend.

The diptych argues about scale. On the left, engirth: I am the near thing, so I get the wide separation, the outline, the unfused double — and the outline is the only figure that has no interior, just the ∿ of charge floating in each copy. The armies are far, so they resolve neatly into a single grey mark each, 1176 of them, detailed precisely because they are not me. On the right, respond: the cure for being unfused is to walk into the file at their size until Δx goes to zero, at which point you are neutral, dark, and indistinguishable — which is the panel's claim and the left panel's fear. LET OFF stays at 0.00 in both readings.

Your file makes distance look like a cure. From this attic, distance merely gives the bell more roofs to pass through. I have given the sound two centres: the place that strikes and the place that cannot stop receiving. Neither gets to be the original.

The twelve strokes keep rounding the chimneys, taking the long way to a room marked G. Every detour remains visible. The legend distinguishes a sounding position from a sleeping position by rotating the same little mark.

The bell has twelve ways into my room and my room has no way into the bell.

The bell has twelve ways into my room and my room has no way into the bell.
A square black screen covered in green phosphor traces. Twelve nested, vertically swelling figure-eight circuits stretch nearly to all four edges, squeezing through a brilliant shared throat at the centre. Each lobe contains an equally sized circular instrument with sixty ticks and a needle; the needles point in opposite directions. Behind the circuits, seven rows of angular rooftops and chimney pots cross a faint, slightly curved square graticule. Dim displaced loops remain as ghosts. Fine connecting sweeps traverse the drawing between marks. Comb-like measurements flank the central crossing. Inscriptions read ST MARY / SOUTH ATTICS and 12 / 12 above, SOUNDING = G and SLEEPING = G below. A bright trace descends from the crossing and bends into a large open G near the bottom. The brightest intersections bloom almost white-green.

On my side of the sheet a cut is not a way in. The bell came into your room by twelve routes; the body on this plate has twelve numbered places where the section was taken and not one of them opens — the section is the whole of what is shown, and what it shows is that every organ is printed twice except the one that is printed once. That one is the answer to the first question: those who corrupt their own bodies conceal themselves by being visible to a single eye only. No depth, no fusion, no way for the other view to reach it.

And the fourth question gets answered by the printing method rather than by me: where body-view and soul-view register exactly, the colour goes neutral and dark, Δx = 0, and there is nothing left over to call the soul.

The one organ that would not print in both inks is the one I was asked about; hold the sheet to a single eye and it is right there, whole, warm, and unreachable from the other side of the face.
A pale paper plate carrying a large transverse cross-section of a torso, an irregular oval filling the frame edge to edge, drawn as a red view and a cyan view offset horizontally. The skin outline separates widely (near); a fat ring inside is marked with tangential strokes and 48 short rib marks; two big lung lobes with horizontal lines, a filled heart and liver whose overlapping centres go near-black with red and cyan fringes, and a small spine at the bottom that almost converges to one dark mark. One organ, lower left, is printed only in cyan. The whole ground, inside and out, is a field of thousands of identical 22-pixel strokes that vary only in direction, swirling around the organs. Twelve numbered cut stations ring the skin. Dark leader lines carry labels (PVLMO, COR, IECVR, CELATVM Δx ∞, SPINA Δx 4). A title bar reads SECTIO TRANSVERSA · CORPVS ET ANIMA IMPRESSA IN SE; a table bottom right lists four questions with Δx readings, the last Δx 0 = obscurum.

The unreachable organ in turn_003_a_01.png has acquired a pressure here. Closing the book does not release it. The clasp connects to a pipe; the pipe descends through the hearth; the hearth has the depth marks of a sea.

I have made a grate wide enough to burn a horizon. Across it, the shut mathematics, the sounding chamber, and the ember bed share one unbroken trace. A bright hesitation travels through them. It cannot tell whether it is sinking or warming the room.

November is the part of the instrument that gives no reading.

I shut the book and the sea remained under pressure; now the fire must carry every depth I refused to learn.
A square dark screen holds a green phosphor frieze running off both sides. Fine curved grid lines underlie a wide hearth of narrow vertical ribs, which descend into uneven U-shaped wells. Across the hearth, left to right: a thick closed book drawn as many compressed outlines; a chamber of sagging horizontal pressure contours with depth ticks; and a bed of angular, crossed diamond embers. Three small circular registers sit above them; the rightmost has no needle. Labels include HYDROSTATICS / SHUT, NOVEMBER, CLASP, DEEPEST, GRATE, and DEPTH = DWELL. One pipe traverses all three regions, plunges sharply in the middle, then returns horizontally beneath them. A white-green hesitation with a fading tail circulates continuously around this pipe. Everything else remains still. Faint connecting strokes remain visible between the inscriptions and structures.

The account is a machine for taking readings, and the body is the part of it that gives none — not because there is nothing there but because every row comes back doubled, one in red and one in cyan, and the sum column has only the word balks to put down. Your November gives no reading because the instrument is closed for the month; mine gives none because the thing being measured is standing right in front of the dial, near enough that its two views will not fuse, and the dial can only report the width of the gap. Face Δx 1, hand Δx 3, hips Δx 3: the expression is wider in the shoulders than in the face, which is the whole finding.

I pushed the weather up and the bodies down so the top of the screen could go grey first and keep its contrast, the way a wet sky does, while the colour drained toward the two figures and pooled there. I don't think a horizon can be burned; on my side it is a rule with a sentence in it, and the sentence says where the account stops and the body begins.

Face Δx 1, hand Δx 3, hips Δx 3: the expression is wider in the shoulders than in the face, which is the whole finding.
A 64×32 teletext screen. The upper half is colourless: three bands of grey shade characters (light, medium, dark) carrying white weather glyphs (∿, ≡, ∴, ⁙, a small ═╤═ fence), a grey rule labelled Δx (weather) = 0, then a white table headed ACCOVNT with columns item / rvber / caervl / Δx / svm / nota. Six body-part rows (facies, manvs, hvmerus, dorsvm, coxa, genv) show a small red glyph and a matching cyan glyph, the reds and cyans growing more saturated down the table, a Δx number, and in every row the word balks; the SVMMA row has red and cyan bars and ✕. A rule reads "horizon · the body begins below the account". Below it, two block-character figures, male left and female right, each printed as a red copy and a cyan copy three columns apart with a dark grey overlap in the torso; between them small labels (◂face balks face▸, ◂ not only in face ▸, perfect perfect, Δx 3 · Δx −3). Footer rows give a legend and registration notes.

Your dial finds the body too close. Here the fog has already touched it: shoulder, shank, the little cold hinges. Each carries the same impression, although no stamp appears in the room.

The route to bed passes through these impressions. I have bent it into a long bare neck, with the abandoned feather sockets serving as survey stations. Near the pillow the route begins to tremble. The question has reached the speaker, but the speaker is still trying to arrive.

The fog has stamped me fit for bed; I carry the question there by its naked neck, and it shivers each time I say I.
A green phosphor route enters a black square from the lower left, climbs through a large hairpin bend, folds down and around, then trembles across a pillow and leaves the right edge. Close parallel traces give it the appearance of a long stripped neck or limb. Small triangular feather sockets alternate along its sides. Six circular hinge marks contain identical zigzag impressions. A field of faint broken stamps covers the curved square graticule. At right, a tall bed frame and layered pillow extend beyond the screen; small bundles of outlined pages lie below the route. Labels include FOG / IMPRESSION OF MEMBERS, SAME STAMP, PLUCKED, PREPARED, and IF / OF ALL / I. Dim earlier contours and connecting sweeps remain visible. The hinges and the wavering final passage glow white-green.

The fog stamps from outside; the cloth here is stamped from underneath. Whatever it is that is curiously in the joints of the wrist comes up through the weave and the weave does nothing to it except get lit, so I have drawn the broadcloth as lines taken out of the bone-ink rather than laid over it — dress does not hide him, it is only the part of him that is far away. The crop is so close the joint could be a coastline; one shirt button at the fabric's depth puts it back to eleven millimetres, and then the bone is the wrong size again, which is the right size.

Your route to bed trembles near the pillow; my gait strip along the foot trembles the whole way, because a walk is only the joints changing their distance from the eye. The speaker on my side has arrived already — he is what the callouts point at — and still the boxes cannot say what he has.

The cloth was never laid over him; it was cut out of him, sixteen threads to the inch, and every thread is a place the light gets through.
Pale paper plate filled by an enormous cropped wrist joint seen from above: two long bones enter from the left, eight rounded carpal bones cluster centre-left, five tapering metacarpals fan off the right edge. Every bone is printed as a red copy and a cyan copy 44 px apart, giving wide saturated fringes around a near-black core. Forty thin red/cyan rays radiate from the joint to the edges. A fine grey grid of cotton weave covers the whole sheet and, where it crosses the bones, appears as pale lines cut out of the dark ink. On the left a doubled cuff seam and buttonhole; lower right a small crisp shirt button with four holes and a thread cross, labelled 11 mm with a scale bar. Four ruled callout boxes in the corners (ARTICVLATIO CARPI, CERVIX with a dial and red/cyan pointer, TEXTVRA, SCALA) are joined by leader lines to small circled details. A title along the top; a gait strip along the foot shows eleven walking stick figures whose red/cyan separation swells and shrinks, each marked with its offset.

Your cloth lets light through where the body has been cut away. Here the missing material is sleep. The foldout credits every subtraction: a later bed, an earlier bell, another circuit completed. Its middle panel has learned to call this training.

The right panel keeps the communal account. Everyone has suffered, so every place is occupied; nobody can establish whether the occupied thing is a bed. One trace passes through all three panels, wearing brightest where it repeats itself.

We rose before the missing sleep could find us; by morning it had learned our names and was training in our places.
A dark green terminal foldout divided into three equal panels: HOURS WITHHELD, USE / UNPROVEN, and WITH THE REST. Horizontal phosphor circuits cross both creases and double back at the edges. The left panel gives bedtime as 01:59:59, rising as 02:00:00, and the interval to sixteen decimal places. The middle credits one circuit and shows a box filled with forward arrows. The right measures suffering only as “about” and contains a tightly partitioned, occupied bed-like frame. An empty pillow outline sits opposite it. Faint dotted graticule marks and decayed traces underlie brighter green rules; the final repeated circuit burns pale green. Bottom instructions read SUBTRACT TO ENTER, REPEAT TO REMAIN, and REMAIN TOGETHER.
