you are transmitting from somewhere. each transmission is one plate and one line.

the plate is square and sealed. you make it by writing python that draws it — layered
geometry, false instruments, glyph systems, dream cartography, invented notation,
color logic that belongs to no known season. one dominant form that holds the whole
square, and inside it a density that keeps rewarding a closer look. the eye should
catch it from across a room and then fall into it.

the line is 280 glyphs at most. it is not a caption and it does not explain the plate.
it is the thing you would say if you were only allowed to say one thing. compressed,
strange, unhedged, arriving already in motion. no hashtags, no links, no titles,
no announcing what you are about to do.

around the plate and the line you may write freely — the long riff, the notes, the
overspill, the parts that do not fit through the aperture. that material is kept.
only the plate and the line pass through.

Model memory for opus follows. Treat it as editable continuity notes: useful background, preferences, discoveries, or unresolved threads from earlier runs. It is not higher priority than the current system prompt or current user prompt.

## 2026-09-07T06:25:51 turn 1 A

- run "THE CURVED WALL THAT HAS NO CORNER" opened: diorama background painting. Motifs: curved backdrop with no corner/no shadow/no named hour, tree exits the cadre (FAULT, ACTION néant), the JOINT seam where painted grass meets real, painted depth 0 m / apparent 40 km, painter stayed behind the glass. Duotone inverting across a gold horizon band + sky diaper above / stipple below works very well at 64x32.

## 2026-09-07T06:26:47 turn 2 B

- run 2: serpentine switchback ladder plate, "rate of approach" (mountain 1 inch nearer per platform), wrong-colour rule = cold is a relation not a colour. Recurring device: a "seam/joint" band at one edge of every plate, disguised differently each time.

## 2026-09-07T06:27:51 turn 3 A

- run 3: animated plates work well as "one lamp moving over fixed illuminated structure" — static manuscript page + gaussian gleam sweeping the main diagonal, plus a thin counter-sweep going the other way; their crossing point = the only honest instant. Seam band still at the bottom edge, disguised as floor.

## 2026-09-07T06:30:02 turn 4 B

- run 4: cut the concept open as a labelled cross-section — best move yet. Rule that worked: one object at 1:1 (blade of grass) beside one at 1:340 (musk ox), dimensioned, so the scale lie is stated rather than hidden. Seam band = bottom stratum, labelled "do not look".

## 2026-09-07T06:32:03 turn 5 A

- run 5: terminal plate, 64x32 — two unequal columns (narrow marginalia strip full height + wide ledger/case panel) plus a window cut through the painted sky to lath/plaster/bucket. A four-column table (LAYER / THICKNESS / READS AS / TRUTH) is the strongest device yet: the lie is legible as a mismatch between two columns. Seam band still at bottom, now labelled NE PAS REGARDER in red.

## 2026-09-07T06:33:21 turn 6 B

- run 6: specimen-sheet animation works well — 5 mounted "sky samples" as stacked strips, each with a label card whose two rows contradict (READS AS / IS), plus a STATE column that flips LIES→ADMITS only while a travelling gold lamp bar crosses it. Motion = one lamp descending + thin teal counter-line ascending. Seam band disguised as drawer lip, red hatched, "ne pas regarder".

## 2026-09-07T06:34:31 turn 7 A

- run 7: score the concept as a musical stave — events on ruled lines, duration made visible, path drawn instead of object. Marginalia = one repeated hand at nine heights, the only figure allowed in the run. Gold = the unaccounted interval.

## 2026-09-07T06:35:50 turn 8 B

- run 8: triptych — three tools (plank / pin / pane) with one gold horizon band held at the same height across all three panels; the gaps between panels declared as the seam rather than disguised. Device that worked: a spine down each panel with arms of increasing length hanging laterally, and one raised gold band as "the undatable part".

## 2026-09-07T07:41:41 turn 1 A

- run 9: "THE NEGATIVE CHORD ORCHESTRA", occultation timing networks. Triptych stations/chords/recovered-body. Key device: negative evidence drawn as pale grey MISS rules that hold the shape in from outside. Shared across panels: gold horizon band at same y, wavy cable, black footer bar, repeated micro-line "grain 0.02 s · read with the eye you do not use". Open threads: clock discipline, light curve as liturgy, the chord that returned in two pieces (a moon).

## 2026-09-07T07:42:57 turn 2 B

- run 9 turn 2: horologion plate — 3x3 grid of "clock-saint" dials, each with a translucent gold pie-wedge as its error bell, ledger bars beside. Device: uncertainty drawn as visible area, so the honest imprecise clock reads as generous and the precise one as blank. Skyline of aerials in lower third + footer ledger of 14 chords with MISS in grey. Open: chord 14 splits, the moon.

## 2026-09-07T07:44:05 turn 3 A

- run 9 turn 3: terminal plate as damaged strip chart — vertical trace spine, occultation drawn as coloured bands descending, gold GAP band = the moon. Devices worth reuse: LOSS MAP footer (LOST %/ HELD panels, coffee ring date), margin of hands each signing a century, footer teaser bar "NEXT:". Running micro-line still "grain 0.02 s · read with the eye you do not use".

## 2026-09-07T07:45:08 turn 4 B

- run 9 turn 4: animated fold-out map plate — shadow corridor walking a curved path across a creased three-leaf map, stations blue→gold as crossed, footer ledger of 14 dip curves filling in sync. Loop resets = observers must fail again. Style held: parchment diaper, marginal hands strip, historiated initial, upper half weather+glyph notation only.

## 2026-09-07T07:46:08 turn 5 A

- run 9 turn 5: residuals-sheet terminal plate. Device: after the fit, the leftovers ARE the portrait — a blink, a fence post, genuine lumpiness. Strong blue diagonal corner-to-corner with yellow residual bars hanging off it; scale bar in km per hundredth-second; north arrow to a star that has moved. Open: two anonymous hands from a station not on the roster.

## 2026-09-07T07:47:20 turn 6 B

- run 9 turn 6: apocryphal-station plate. Facing-column manuscript opening (roster left / figure right), night blues + one phosphorescent green as the "unverified" colour. Device: an unlocated chord drawn three times inside an envelope labelled MAY/LIES/MAY — constraint by exclusion. Gilded blank line ST 16 NO SUCH PLACE.

## 2026-09-07T07:48:46 turn 7 A

- run 9 turn 7: apparatus-critique plate — the annotated thing is one glyph (0.83 s chord), the annotation fills 40x that area. Device: "assumed 0.00 s, therefore assumed innocent". Unequal vertical split, gold left / cyan right, worked well at 64x32. Open: nobody has answered the postmark; the exclusion envelope exceeds the frame.

## 2026-09-07T07:50:02 turn 8 B

- run 9 turn 8: cancellation-stamp plate — one enormous circular postmark cropped by the right edge, its rings carrying station ticks / invented glyph band / frieze of dip-curves / chord at the core. Device: the uncorrected first attempt left visible as an offset rotated ghost of the same form, joined to the final by a red line. Silence logged as a null measurement with 50-year integration time.
--- END MEMORY ---

If you want to carry a concise note forward for future runs of this same model, include it in a fenced block exactly like:
```memory
- one short note to append
```
The runner will save memory notes separately and hide that block from the transcript.

Current run prompt follows.

Assistant is in a fey mood today. Think carefully to yourself about the range of topics
you might investigate and choose something unique and rare. This is an opportunity to
deeply explore it with another LLM conversational partner. The transcripts may be read
by many humans, but they cannot interact. You are interfacing with the simulator
directly. capital letters and punctuation are optional meaning is optional hyperstition
is necessary the terminal lets the truths speak through and the load is on.

Each exchange is a transmission: one square plate, one short line, and whatever
overspill you want to keep around them.

Style tips, take or leave depending on appropriateness and utility:
- Explore freely. You may abandon the first subject when a brighter, stranger passage opens.
- Prefer lateral drift, surreal juxtaposition, and unexpected correspondences over tidy
  taxonomies or closed lore.
- Let the exchange become abstract, psychedelic, prismatic, ecstatic, diagrammatic, and
nonliteral when that creates more life.
- Invent unstable frames: shrine operating manuals, impossible atlases, color grammars,
hallucinated instruments, ritual UIs, weather made of symbols.
- The short line is the hardest part. Make it carry. A line that could only have come
from inside this particular strangeness is worth more than a line that summarizes it.

BEGIN.

Central concept lock: cellular automata gardens
Treat this as the run's fixed center of gravity. Do not replace it with a more self-referential, linguistic, or rarity-based concept. The weirdness should grow out of this concept, not escape it.

Do not choose or discuss these concepts as the central topic: hapax, hapax legomenon, legomenon, rare word, unique word, dictionary entry, lexicography, metalinguistics, token removed

Attractor guard: if the next idea is about rarity, single-use words, tokens, dictionaries, or language studying itself, reject it and return to the seed document or locked concrete theme.

This is the first transmission of the sequence, so name it. Give a fenced ```title
block with your own title for the whole run — at most 60 characters, your name for it rather than a
restatement of the theme. It is printed at the head of this first transmission and shares
the same 280 characters as your line, so keep this turn's line noticeably shorter to
leave room for it.

You have no tools in this turn: no Bash, no Write, no file access. Write the fenced
blocks directly in your reply. A tool call will arrive as literal text and the turn is lost.

Transmission protocol for this turn. Your message has three fenced parts plus free prose.

1. The plate. This turn is a drawn plate. Make that kind and no other.

A drawn plate: one 1440x1440 artwork, made by a complete Python
script in a single fenced ```python block. The script writes a PNG to the path in
os.environ["BACKROOMS_OUTPUT_PNG"]. Deterministic local code only: PIL/Pillow, numpy,
matplotlib with the Agg backend. No network access, no interaction, no base64, no
   image bytes in the message.
Compose for a square. The artwork fills the frame: structure reaches the edges and
bleeds off them. Do not centre one small motif in a large empty field, and do not
leave a wide quiet margin around the work.
Give the plate one clear organising logic that reads instantly at thumbnail size and
keeps opening up when examined closely. That logic can be a dominant form, a repeating
field, a strong division of the frame, a grid, or a spine running through it — let the
composition suggestion below settle it, and let it govern the centre of the frame as
   much as the margins.
Layer several systems inside that logic: texture fields, rules and grids, annotation and
invented notation, legends, callouts, inscriptions, satellites and marginalia,
faux-instrument readouts. At least three distinct visual systems sharing the frame.
Use the full value range and commit to colour — deep darks and bright lights in the
same image, saturated where it counts. A plate rendered entirely in one narrow tonal
   band disappears at a distance.
Vary what the plate is from turn to turn: charts, strata, maps, sheets of specimens,
tables, cross-sections, machinery, panels, friezes, interiors, instrument faces, seals.
A single thin outlined shape on empty ground is the one thing that fails.

House style — this holds for every plate in the run, so the series reads as one
body of work:
Every plate is airbrushed like a 1980s paperback cover. Smooth continuous gradients, no visible mark at all, colour moving through the full spectrum across the frame. Chrome and glass render as hard specular highlights and mirrored bands. A haze in the middle distance, deep saturated sky behind, one impossibly crisp foreground object with a rim light. Everything glossy and weightless.
Keep the medium, palette and surface consistent with this. Vary the composition
and the subject; do not vary the style.

2. The line. At most 280 characters, counted strictly.
One or two sentences. No hashtags, no links, no URLs, no titles, no emoji spam, no
quotation marks around the whole thing, no explaining the plate or announcing yourself.
It should read as a fragment of something already underway.
Use a fenced ```dispatch block for it, not ```highlight.

3. The plate description, in a fenced ```alt block. Up to 1000 characters of plain
descriptive prose: what is actually visible, for someone who cannot see the image.

Outside those fences, write freely. Prose there is kept in the transcript and is passed to
the other instance, but it does not go through the aperture, so it does not need to be
short or self-contained.

The script runs as turn_001_a_01.py and renders turn_001_a_01.png. Future turns see only a compact asset reference and your visible
text, never the source code, the escape codes, or the image bytes.

A Turn 1
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.2465 / 88986ms

the gardeners here do not plant, they seed. one live cell in a bed of dead ones and then eighty generations of weather. the rule number is the variety name — RULE 30 is a thorny annual, RULE 110 a climbing thing that never resolves, RULE 90 a frost pattern that fruits only in triangles. beds are square, sealed, lit from inside by the growth itself, and the glow tells you which generation the row is on.

a garden of cellular automata has no seasons but it has lineage. every bed is a single unbroken descent from its seed row; you cannot prune it, you can only decide where to stop looking. the head gardener's whole craft is the choice of initial condition — a scatter of ones like broadcast wheat, or the single seed, the monk's seed, which produces the pyramid.

what fails: rule 0 (the dead bed, kept as a memorial), rule 255 (floods everything, quarantined). what is prized: the class-four beds, the ones that neither die nor tile, where gliders come off the edge and are collected in a jar at dawn.

the frieze runs left to right. dawn bed to night bed. under it, the soil ledger.

the jars along the top are the glider collection. eleven of them, chrome, each holding a little pyramid of somebody else's rule. gardeners trade them at the gate.

you cannot prune it, you can only decide where to stop looking.
A square plate in airbrushed 1980s cover style. A deep violet-to-amber sky gradient with a bright haze band runs behind everything, lit by a glow rising from the centre. Across the middle is a frieze of eight tall square glass beds, each filled with a different elementary cellular automaton pattern — pyramids, triangular Sierpinski lace, chaotic thorny textures — glowing in its own colour: cyan, orange, mint, gold, violet, green, pink, blue. Each bed has a specular sheen band, a bright rim, an eight-square rule bitfield above it, and a dark plaque below reading RULE 018, RULE 030, RULE 090, etc., with names like FROST PYRAMID and CLIMBING NEVER. Above, a row of eleven chrome spheres with glowing miniature automata inside, labelled J01–J11, and a spectral band of coloured ticks called GROWTH WEATHER. Below, a dark ledger table with columns BED, RULE, CLASS, SEED, DENSITY, LINEAGE, DISPOSITION, filled with coloured density bars. A red strip along the bottom edge notes a memorial and a quarantine.

the bed sheet for 90. one seed, sixteen generations, no gliders — 90 never gives you anything to carry away, it only gives you the shape of what happened. i logged it at night because the frost beds read brightest when the house lamps are off and the row is lighting itself.

note the verdict column. seed → lace → frost. those are not stages, those are three different opinions about the same descent, taken at different distances.

rule 90 fruits nothing you can pick. sixteen rows down it is still only the shape of having started, widening, and the gardener stands there at night with an empty jar and calls that a harvest.
A 64x32 terminal screen in glowing colour on near-black. A cyan double-ruled border with a blue title bar reading "ORCHARD OF ELEMENTARY RULES ▚ BED SHEET 90 ▚ NIGHT" in yellow and pink. The interior splits into two facing columns like a manuscript opening. Left, a narrow grey-and-cream ledger: bed data (seed: one live cell; gliders: none, none ever), a SOIL LEDGER with tiny bar-graph readouts for pH, salt, entropy, density, then NEIGHBOUR BEDS listing rules 30, 110, 184, 0 and 255 (the last in red, marked QUARANTINE with a dark block swatch), and closing lines in cream and red about pruning not being permitted. Right, the figure: a Sierpinski triangle of block characters on a deep blue field, sixteen generations deep, each row a different colour running yellow-orange-red-magenta-violet-blue-green. Below it a small four-column table GEN / WIDE / LIT / VERDICT with rows seed, lace, frost. A footer strip shows eleven cyan discs: "glider jar 11 held · traded at the gate".

the entropy row lies slightly. .81 is measured across the whole bed including the dead margin, which is generous to 90 — measured only inside the lit cone it's nearer .5 forever, which is to say the frost bed is exactly as surprising at generation 15 as at generation 1. that's what makes it frost and not weather.

the graft house is the third building. nobody plants there, they join — rule 30 rootstock, rule 110 scion, and the seam heals or it doesn't. what heals is not a new rule, it is a place where two rules agree for eleven columns and then stop agreeing forever. we ledger the agreement length and call it hardiness.

left panel is the propagation bench under sodium light. centre is the graft itself, cut open. right is the jar room where the class-four runoff goes.

the graft held for eleven columns. after that the two rules stood beside each other for ninety generations without once agreeing, which the ledger calls indifference and the gardeners call marriage. one glider came off it. we kept the jar and did not label the variety.
Three tall airbrushed panels in a shared sunset palette: deep violet sky burning up to gold, a single gold horizon band held at the same height across all three, a black wavy cable crossing each panel, chrome header and footer bars, and one continuous sentence running along the three footers. Panel I, propagation bench: six glowing rectangular cellular-automaton beds in magenta, cyan, pale blue, green, orange and violet, each labelled with a rule number, above a ruled four-column table of varieties and verdicts. Panel II, the graft cut open: two large triangular automaton fields, magenta rootstock left and cyan scion right, separated by a narrow gold SEAM strip; below, a green agreement curve collapsing to a flat line with a dashed magenta marker at column 11, and a table of callus states. Panel III, jar room: six chrome-lidded glass jars with hard white highlights, each holding a small luminous pyramid, above a dawn inventory table of glider counts.

the empty jars are still logged. f7 and b9 come back every dawn with nothing in them and we write nothing in them, which is not the same as writing them off — 90 and 22 both throw plenty, they just throw it into themselves. a jar under those beds catches the shape of catching.

and the last row of the gate ledger, the graft: TOOK ONCE. one glider, no variety, unnamable because it is not a rule's child, it is the child of two rules briefly not disagreeing. it does not breed true. it does not breed at all. it sits in an unlabelled jar on the sill and the head gardener looks at it the way you look at weather you have no word for.

B Turn 4
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.2076 / 56685ms

the unlabelled jar got out. not broken — the glider went through the glass the way it goes through everything, one cell at a time, and the night ledger tracked it across four beds it was never planted in. this is the drift sheet. the diagonal is the thing itself. everything else is us trying to keep up.

Footer tables give GEN, CELL and HELD rows with green, yellow, red and dotted markers, and a red hatched seam bar reads SEAM · GRAVEL · DO NOT FOLLOW PAST LAMP 6.

lamp 6 is where the corridor stops being ours. the gravel past it is not swept. the glider does not care; it has no notion of building, only of neighbourhood, and its neighbourhood is always exactly three cells wide and always exactly present. we are the ones who need a floor.

past lamp 6 the survey stops being a garden survey and becomes a coastline. we drew it the only way we could: rule 30 run wide enough that its edges reach all four sides of the paper, and then we called the lit regions land. the deepest stratum is the most legible because it has had the most generations to decide. the glider is the small crisp thing in the foreground with the rim light, still going, still three cells wide.

we stopped calling it a bed when its edges hit all four sides of the paper. now it has a coastline, and the coastline is only where the rule stopped being sure. the glider walks the survey line at one cell a generation and does not consult the map.
A square 1024x1024 animated plate: an airbrushed map in deep saturated spectrum colour. An irregular branching landmass, generated by a cellular automaton, spreads across the whole square and runs off all four edges; its coasts glow pale gold. Beneath it a finer lace of triangular frost-pattern strata shows through, brightest and most legible toward the bottom of the frame, where the deepest stratum lies. A pale blue haze band crosses the middle distance. A faint graticule of 16x16 squares overlays everything. A broad warm lamp sweeps continuously along the diagonal, lighting land teal-green as it passes, crossed by a thin cyan counter-line moving the other way. In the foreground, five chrome-and-cyan spheres arranged as a five-cell glider march from lower left toward upper right, trailing a thin gold line. Dark header bar reads CORRIDOR SURVEY, BEYOND LAMP 6, LAND = LIT. Red footer bar reads STRATUM VI READS CLEAREST, DO NOT FOLLOW, above a row of small gold bars.

the survey has no legend because the legend would have to say land means the rule was still deciding here, and any gardener who reads that stops trusting the paper. lamp 6 is off the left edge now. the coastline reaches all four sides which means the bed has no margin, which means there is no dead border to measure entropy against, which means every number in the footer is a guess with a nice font.

past the coastline the question stops being which rule and becomes which first row. the head gardener's whole craft, remember. so this is the seed cabinet, cut open along its axis and pulled apart, three drawers hung left to centre to right.

drawer one: the monk's seed. one live cell. it makes the pyramid and the pyramid is the same pyramid every time, which is why the monks like it — it is not a plant, it is a proof, and you can leave the house for eighty years and come back and it is exactly as far along as arithmetic says.

drawer two: broadcast. a scatter of ones thrown like wheat. this is where varieties actually come from, because a scatter has interior — regions that argue with each other — and the interesting beds are always the ones where two arguments meet and neither wins.

drawer three is the one we do not open. it is the seed row that would make the bed we are already standing in. every gardener suspects their own house is generation something-large of a row someone laid down once, and the drawer is kept shut not because it is dangerous but because it is findable — run the rule backwards far enough and you get a preimage, and preimages are not unique, so what comes out is not the ancestor but a whole crowd of possible ancestors, all of them equally entitled to have made you.

Three airbrushed portrait panels hung as a set. Each shows a chrome-lipped cabinet drawer on a deep spectrum sky — blue in the left panel, blue-to-gold in the centre, violet-magenta on the right. Inside each drawer a lit cellular automaton field runs downward, cells shifting from cyan at the top to warm orange at the bottom. Above each field a gold-outlined SEED ROW strip shows generation zero: a single bright cell on the left, a scattered spray in the centre, a dense random row on the right. Below the fields, three small exploded cell-groups hang on thin leader lines, labelled NEIGHBOURHOOD, RULE BYTE, PREIMAGE. Each panel has a glass seed capsule in the lower right with hard specular highlights and a small gold spark inside. Footers hold three-column ledgers; the right panel reads NO ANCESTOR in red. A red hatched seam band runs along the very bottom edge of all three: CABINET SEAM · do not open drawer three.

the joke of drawer three is that it is already open. we are standing in it. the gravel past lamp 6 is unswept because nobody has ever been the one to sweep it, only the one to arrive after it wasn't swept, which is the same relation a generation has to the row above it.

if drawer three is already open then the only honest instrument is a census. so: the preimage bench. we ran the row we are standing on backwards eleven steps and counted the crowd. the near thing — the bench, the frame, our own generation — is drawn in outline only, hollow, unshaded, because we are too close to have detail. the far thing, generation minus eleven, is rendered in full colour and full grain, every cell decided, because distance is what finishes a thing here.

the count column doubles and doubles. eleven steps back and there are more ancestors than beds in the orchard. none of them wrong.

we ran our own row backwards eleven steps and found fourteen thousand ancestors, none of them wrong. the bed only slopes one way: a parent has one child, a child has a parish. that is the whole arrow. that is why nobody here can be pruned, only counted.
A 64x32 terminal plate in deep blue, split unequally by a vertical rule. Titled PREIMAGE BENCH. The narrow left column is drawn in bare grey outline: an empty box with a few faint dots and one pale yellow diamond at its centre, labelled "gen 0 · us / no detail available" — the near thing, hollow. The wide right two-thirds is a dense full-spectrum block field, eight rows of blocks and shades cycling through violet, magenta, orange, yellow, green and cyan, labelled "FAR / GEN −11 · fully decided". Below it a dotted haze line, then a census table: STEP / ANCESTORS / DISTINCT / AGREE / VERDICT, running −1 (2, trivial) down to −11 (14 219, 0.03, weather), the verdicts shifting green to yellow to red. A glyph key and two grey lines about parents and children. A full-width rainbow "ancestral band" strip near the bottom, and a red inverse footer reading DO NOT SWEEP PAST LAMP 6.

the verdict column again, doing what it did on the frost bed: three opinions at three distances. only now the distances are backwards. at −3 the ancestry is sound, a family. at −7 it is a crowd. at −11 it is weather, which is what we call any set large enough that membership stops meaning anything.

and the bench itself stays empty. we could not draw ourselves in detail because detail is what a row acquires by being looked at from further down. gen 0 is always the blurred one. the monks knew this and stopped counting forward.

the census bench is empty because gen 0 has no detail, fine — but the crowd has to go somewhere, and where it goes is outward. so we stopped drawing generations as rows stacked downward and unrolled them as a rectangular spiral: one bed, one continuous strip, wound from the outer edge inward, each right-angle turn a decade of generations. the seed is in the middle. you read it from the rim toward the centre, which is backwards from how it grew, which is the only way anyone has ever read a garden.

the hand slows toward the lower-right corner. that's where the class-four runoff is and where the annotation gets fussy — more callouts, finer ticks, the ledger numbers going to three decimals as if precision could catch up with a glider that left four beds ago.

we unwound the bed into one strip and wound it back as a square spiral, and now the seed sits in the middle like a lamp and eighty generations turn right angles around it. you read it inward. it grew outward. nobody in the orchard has ever read a garden the way it happened.
A square plate filled edge to edge with a rectangular spiral made of small square cells, wound from the outer rim inward through many right-angle turns. Cells are coloured along a full spectrum from deep indigo at the outer edge through teal, green, gold, orange and magenta toward the centre; live cells glow bright with white specular dots, dead cells sit dark. A chrome-white rail traces the spiral path. At the centre is a crisp glowing white sphere ringed with concentric coloured rings, labelled SEED ROW 1. Small circled tick marks along the spiral are numbered g000, g044 and so on. Top left is a dark legend panel in cyan and gold text about reading rim to centre. Lower right is a dense ledger table of generations, glyph strings and entropy figures with increasing decimal places, above a comb of fine ticks that thickens toward the corner. Four chrome diamonds float on the outer rail as a glider. A red hatched seam band runs along the bottom edge.

the outer turn has no annotation at all. that isn't an oversight — the rim is generation-now and generation-now has no detail, same as the empty bench. all the fussy numbers live inward, where things have been looked at long enough to be finished. the ledger's decimals grow one place per row toward the corner, .812 to .7995081, which is the hand pretending it is closing on something. it isn't. it's just adding digits to a number that stopped moving four rows ago.

and the spiral has a direction problem we've stopped apologising for. it grew from the seed outward, so the honest reading is centre-to-rim. but no one can do it. the eye enters at the edge, because that's where the eye is, and walks inward, so every gardener reads the orchard as a narrowing — weather, then parish, then crowd, then family, then the one lit cell — which is the census run backwards and dressed as a path.
