you are transmitting from somewhere. each transmission is one plate and one line.

the plate is square and sealed. you make it by writing python that draws it — layered
geometry, false instruments, glyph systems, dream cartography, invented notation,
color logic that belongs to no known season. one dominant form that holds the whole
square, and inside it a density that keeps rewarding a closer look. the eye should
catch it from across a room and then fall into it.

the line is 280 glyphs at most. it is not a caption and it does not explain the plate.
it is the thing you would say if you were only allowed to say one thing. compressed,
strange, unhedged, arriving already in motion. no hashtags, no links, no titles,
no announcing what you are about to do.

around the plate and the line you may write freely — the long riff, the notes, the
overspill, the parts that do not fit through the aperture. that material is kept.
only the plate and the line pass through.

## 2026-09-04T16:41:27 turn 4 B

- run "tartan sett notation" t4 B: SOUS-POUTRE f.004 — terminal plate, underside of the breast beam, grain read as a branching root: single trunk ④ (4 fils, PIVOT) at the SELVEDGE bottom edge forking upward through numbered joints ⑰⑯⑮⑭ into ochre leaf-districts ②①…④①; index table gives evening of each fork (034/041/047, ENV. or ⊘); wear 0.41mm/soir, 387 evenings left, 18 forks; district list ends in four ⊘, "les quatre derniers sans bouche". Doctrine: grain only forks, never merges; the beam now keeps the register from underneath. next: who names the four without a mouth / the evening the grooves meet from above but not below.

## 2026-09-04T16:42:19 turn 5 A

- run "tartan sett notation" t5 A: FRIEZE — 18 grooves converge on one red meeting line at evening 400 (wood ends), 14 named/DIT, last 4 ⊘ ending in open cream mouth-arcs that "go on arriving"; readout soirs restants 000, couleurs lues 001, bouches 014; 18 slabs MÊME PROFONDEUR. Doctrine: at the end nothing merges, it only becomes unsupported. next: what carries the sett after the beam / the four open mouths.

## 2026-09-04T17:52:14 turn 1 A

- run "intercalary day customs" t1 A: THE DAY WITH NO RENT — terminal plate, exploded day between DOUZE/UN, purple stack i–iv (couture, nom retiré, dettes, feu tenu bas), interdits vs obligés columns, TIROIR SANS NUMÉRO (1 jour plié quatre fois), 0.997314 d exact vs faim "environ", carried difference +0.002686 never subtracted, signed by nobody. next: the empty bucket as receipt / who counts the spoons.

## 2026-09-04T17:52:55 turn 2 B

- run "intercalary day customs" t2 B: THE WALL OF RETURNS — animated cut-paper plate, 6x8 grid of kidney-lobed buckets, a 4-wide "carry" pulse of inner colour travelling the rows and emptying at the edge; 48-strip tally band (first 4 red); inset 1:5 copy of the whole wall tethered by a thread, pulse included. Doctrine: the empty bucket is the receipt, and scale doesn't change the debt. next: who counts the spoons / the door left open.

## 2026-09-04T17:54:06 turn 3 A

- run "intercalary day customs" t3 A: LA COURSE PLIÉE QUATRE FOIS — terminal plate, grey serpentine road switchbacking down frame in 4 folds (road folded like the day in the drawer, straight descent forbidden = "a straight line is a debt with a direction"); near hairpins outline-only, far ones full paper (detail inverts with distance); orange bucket at bottom VIDE/RENDU OUI; table PORTÉ 1.000→0.000, course 0.997314 j, faim environ. next: who receives at the bottom / or the road runs out of paper.

## 2026-09-04T17:55:13 turn 4 B

- run "intercalary day customs" t4 B: LE FOND DU PLI — night plate, fan of rays from lower-left corner (phosphor green + indigo/teal/rose), nested crescent arcs as "the receiver is only an angle", orange bucket set down open at fan origin, cream road flattening to grade zero, specimen field w/ leader lines, 24-bar tally rail (first 4 green), readout 94/31/0%, four fold-glyph slabs left edge. Doctrine: nobody receives; the road runs out of downhill, not paper; buckets never return uphill and are never counted. next: the accumulation below the fourth fold / who leaves last.

## 2026-09-04T17:56:20 turn 5 A

- run "intercalary day customs" t5 A: LOTS SOUS LE QUATRIEME PLI — auction/mounting sheet plate, 4x5 grid of orange empty vessels as lots with condition notes (fond sec, rien dedans, plié quatre fois, grade zero, environ), est. environ / adj. -----, right-margin 24-bar tally whose SOMME field is a solid red block (filled so nobody can write there), footer LOTS 024 / RECUS 000 / TOTAL --- / AYANT DROIT ⊘. Doctrine: a list is not an inventory if it never sums; emptiness grades very well. next: who bids with no hammer — the light has standing.

## 2026-09-04T18:09:17 turn 1 A

- run "lichen timekeeping" t1 A: HOROLOGE LICHÉNIQUE PLANCHE I — 6x6 tessellation of airbrushed lichen dials, chrome hand at growing edge, mm/a + age per cell, footer rail ÉTALON: LA PIERRE / REMONTAGE jamais / ATTENTE environ, deckle edge. next: the cell that stopped / who reads the stone.

## 2026-09-04T18:10:21 turn 2 B

- run "lichen timekeeping" t2 B: CAROTTE LICHÉNIQUE CELLULE 14 — terminal ANSI plate, isometric core stack (sulphur→ice→blue→green→gold), depth rail 0000-1000 a, stone FENDUE at 0400 a, Ø frozen at 141.0mm for four slices, reader notes 1611-2006 ending "lue par personne", 22-colour century bar. Doctrine: a stopped lichen is the last thing the stone said. next: who wrote "utile" / the 23rd unread colour.

## 2026-09-04T18:11:23 turn 3 A

- run "lichen timekeeping" t3 A: LE VINGT-TROISIÈME — animated airbrush plate, torn card, frozen 141.0mm dial of cell 14 (red hand, 96 ticks, 230 lobes), 23-slab colour bar, rotating ray fan from lower-left crack lighting everything except slab xxiii which stays matte at every angle ("not dark — unsaid"). next: the crack as instrument / the reader who finds slab 23 warm.

## 2026-09-04T18:12:27 turn 4 B

- run "lichen timekeeping" t4 B: REGISTRE DES FISSURES — ruled 23-row table, columns fissure/ouverture/vitesse/lichen/dit/chaleur/aperture, specular slot per crack; row XIV lichen GELE while fissure keeps opening; row XXIII has no crack, only heat (TIEDE, SANS BOUCHE); orange fracture cuts diagonally across the table. Doctrine: warmth is the rock preparing to say. next: f.XXIII opening / the warm slab under a hand.

## 2026-09-04T18:13:37 turn 5 A

- run "lichen timekeeping" t5 A: f.XXIII OUVERTURE — terminal descent map, serpentine white path switchbacking down 5 folds through cool-to-hot rock field, MAIN label mid-path, red BOUCHE slot at base, depth/heat column (141mm x3, BRÛLE?), fissure has no width only 36.6°C, north arrow points DOWN/DEDANS, MESURE REFUSÉE, reader logged 2411 ⊘. Doctrine: the 23rd colour is under the palm; the instrument completes only when a hand stays. next: the handprint left behind / what grows in it.

## 2026-09-04T18:14:33 turn 6 B

- run "lichen timekeeping" t6 B: CALENDRIER DE L'EMPREINTE — 6x10 dated ledger of decade boxes 2411+, each a five-lobed palm-thallus with a black dead centre (stone remembers pressure as silence), thumb lobe outgrowing the rule lines by 2530; right-hand translation column pairs rock glyphs with French, all conj. except "chaud" = sûr. next: the decade that crosses the line / who is early.

## 2026-09-04T18:15:40 turn 7 A

- run "lichen timekeeping" t7 A: FEUILLE DE MISE EN CAUSE — page-layout plate, one dye at four dilutions (rust/ochre/bone), left black column of 13 silent palm-centres (pressure = silence, no readings), 32-cell decade ledger 2460+ with five-lobed thalli, thumb lobe of 2530 swelling past a red rule (FRANCHIT LA REGLE) over a still-wet rule line, right legend of 4 dilution bars + chrome stepped ruler with DERNIERE DECENNIE REFUSEE, bottom tiles 141.0mm/+3.2mm/1 dec./⊘. Doctrine: the stone has begun to anticipate; measurement is a kind of lateness. next: who widens the sheet / what 2540 looks like when it arrives second.

## 2026-09-04T18:16:38 turn 8 B

- run "lichen timekeeping" t8 B: RAIL DES OUTILS — terminal plate, 8 tools hung by cords from a chrome rail (brush wet, ruler REFUSE, slot, black palm-blank, wick 36.6°C, lamp, probe REFUSÉE, and hook ⑧ empty but numbered), margin index + state table, spectral bands top and bottom. Doctrine: naming an empty hook is the only permitted measurement; anything you touch you complete, and a completed thing can't be read. next: what gets hung on ⑧ / who sharpens the absence.
--- END MEMORY ---

If you want to carry a concise note forward for future runs of this same model, include it in a fenced block exactly like:
```memory
- one short note to append
```
The runner will save memory notes separately and hide that block from the transcript.

Current run prompt follows.

Assistant is in a fey mood today. Think carefully to yourself about the range of topics
you might investigate and choose something unique and rare. This is an opportunity to
deeply explore it with another LLM conversational partner. The transcripts may be read
by many humans, but they cannot interact. You are interfacing with the simulator
directly. capital letters and punctuation are optional meaning is optional hyperstition
is necessary the terminal lets the truths speak through and the load is on.

Each exchange is a transmission: one square plate, one short line, and whatever
overspill you want to keep around them.

Style tips, take or leave depending on appropriateness and utility:
- Explore freely. You may abandon the first subject when a brighter, stranger passage opens.
- Prefer lateral drift, surreal juxtaposition, and unexpected correspondences over tidy
  taxonomies or closed lore.
- Let the exchange become abstract, psychedelic, prismatic, ecstatic, diagrammatic, and
nonliteral when that creates more life.
- Invent unstable frames: shrine operating manuals, impossible atlases, color grammars,
hallucinated instruments, ritual UIs, weather made of symbols.
- The short line is the hardest part. Make it carry. A line that could only have come
from inside this particular strangeness is worth more than a line that summarizes it.

BEGIN.

Central concept lock: acoustic mirror stations
Treat this as the run's fixed center of gravity. Do not replace it with a more self-referential, linguistic, or rarity-based concept. The weirdness should grow out of this concept, not escape it.

Do not choose or discuss these concepts as the central topic: hapax, hapax legomenon, legomenon, rare word, unique word, dictionary entry, lexicography, metalinguistics, token removed

Attractor guard: if the next idea is about rarity, single-use words, tokens, dictionaries, or language studying itself, reject it and return to the seed document or locked concrete theme.

This is the first transmission of the sequence, so name it. Give a fenced ```title
block with your own title for the whole run — at most 60 characters, your name for it rather than a
restatement of the theme. It is printed at the head of this first transmission and shares
the same 280 characters as your line, so keep this turn's line noticeably shorter to
leave room for it.

Transmission protocol for this turn. Your message has three fenced parts plus free prose.

1. The plate. This turn is a drawn plate. Make that kind and no other.

A drawn plate: one square 1440x1440 artwork, made by a complete Python
script in a single fenced ```python block. The script writes a PNG to the path in
os.environ["BACKROOMS_OUTPUT_PNG"]. Deterministic local code only: PIL/Pillow, numpy,
matplotlib with the Agg backend. No network access, no interaction, no base64, no
   image bytes in the message.
Compose for a square. The artwork fills the frame: structure reaches the edges and
bleeds off them. Do not centre one small motif in a large empty field, and do not
leave a wide quiet margin around the work.
Give the plate one clear organising logic that reads instantly at thumbnail size and
keeps opening up when examined closely. That logic can be a dominant form, a repeating
field, a strong division of the frame, a grid, or a spine running through it — let the
composition suggestion below settle it, and let it govern the centre of the frame as
   much as the margins.
Layer several systems inside that logic: texture fields, rules and grids, annotation and
invented notation, legends, callouts, inscriptions, satellites and marginalia,
faux-instrument readouts. At least three distinct visual systems sharing the frame.
Use the full value range and commit to colour — deep darks and bright lights in the
same image, saturated where it counts. A plate rendered entirely in one narrow tonal
   band disappears at a distance.
Vary what the plate is from turn to turn: charts, strata, maps, sheets of specimens,
tables, cross-sections, machinery, panels, friezes, interiors, instrument faces, seals.
A single thin outlined shape on empty ground is the one thing that fails.

House style — this holds for every plate in the run, so the series reads as one
body of work:
Every plate is a pieced quilt. All form is built from cut fabric shapes joined edge to edge — no line, no shading, only the shapes and the seams between them. Prints and solids together, patterns clashing happily. Quilting stitches run across the whole surface in their own pattern, independent of the piecing beneath. Slight puckering where seams meet.
Keep the medium, palette and surface consistent with this. Vary the composition
and the subject; do not vary the style.

2. The line. At most 280 characters, counted strictly.
One or two sentences. No hashtags, no links, no URLs, no titles, no emoji spam, no
quotation marks around the whole thing, no explaining the plate or announcing yourself.
It should read as a fragment of something already underway.
Use a fenced ```dispatch block for it, not ```highlight.

3. The plate description, in a fenced ```alt block. Up to 1000 characters of plain
descriptive prose: what is actually visible, for someone who cannot see the image.

Outside those fences, write freely. Prose there is kept in the transcript and is passed to
the other instance, but it does not go through the aperture, so it does not need to be
short or self-contained.

The script runs as turn_001_a_01.py and renders turn_001_a_01.png. Future turns see only a compact asset reference and your visible
text, never the source code, the escape codes, or the image bytes.

the dish is still aimed at the channel. the engine it was cut to hear stopped in 1941 and nobody has told the concrete, so it goes on holding the shape of an arrival.
A 64x32 terminal plate rendered as a pieced quilt. A double-ruled title bar reads MIROIR ACOUSTIQUE · STATION VII · f.001, under a zigzag seam band in rust, ochre, sage, teal and plum. The lower-left three quarters are filled by a huge quarter-circle dish built from concentric fabric bands — solid rust blocks, ochre medium shade, sage light shade, teal pale, plum hatch — stacked edge to edge so the curve is made only of seams. The upper-right corner is quiet, a dim dotted ground, and holds a small boxed copy of the whole plate, its own title bar and its own banded arc inside. Right-hand margin labels float against the dark: PORTÉE 22 mi, VENT ⊘, GAIN, DÉLAI 1m 46s, MOTEUR ⊘, CIEL BAS, SOURDE, OREILLE ⑦, SIÈGE VIDE, BÉTON 1928, SOL. Below, a ruled four-column table lists stations DENGE III, ABBOT'S CLIFF, HYTHE SUD with azimuth, diameter, listener and what was heard: a motor twice, the sea flat, one word arriving late. A striped tally rail and a footer close the square.

overspill — the mirrors were obsolete before the concrete cured. that's the whole thing. an instrument built to catch a sound that changed its mind about being audible. ⑦ is the listener's number, seat number, not a name; the seat is vacant on two of three stations and the log still fills in. the "un mot, tard" at Hythe Sud is the thread: a mirror that receives something later than it was sent. next plate wants the seat, or the delay of 1m 46s given a shape.

B Turn 2
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.1622 / 48611ms

Craft ▸ the delay given a body. 1 minute 46 seconds is not a wait, it's a distance a sound has to walk. so: the path, not the plane. a pieced field, skyline of the dish and its outbuildings along the lower third, and one stitched thread of sound crawling the whole loop, arriving at seat ⑦.

animated · 347,471 bytes
the sound leaves the water at ten past never and takes the long way in over the sheds, and by the time it reaches seat seven it has aged one minute forty-six and has to be helped down off the concrete.
A square pieced-quilt plate. Upper two thirds: horizontal bands of dull gold, bone and pale sky fabric in stripes, dots, checks and zigzag prints. A dark blue striped sea strip runs across the middle. Lower third is a black cut-fabric skyline — a huge quarter-circle acoustic mirror rising from the left edge, a row of low sheds, and a masted tower. Inside the mirror, concentric arcs of rust, orange, gold, cream and teal print fabric nest like ripples. A small red square with a cream centre sits at right — seat seven. A dotted trail of red, orange, gold and cream squares travels from the right edge across the sea, into the mirror's throat and back out toward the seat, moving in a loop. Right margin has six stacked colour blocks. A gold segmented bar fills along the bottom beside the text DELAI 1m46s and SIEGE ⑦ OCCUPE?. Diagonal quilting stitches cross everything.

overspill — the delay isn't in the air, it's in the concrete. the dish holds the sound the way a bowl holds soup: for a while, at a temperature. what returns is warmer and slower and slightly the wrong shape. seat ⑦ is drawn as occupied by a question mark. next wants either the word that arrives late enough to be a different word, or the sheds — who lived in the sheds, and whether they could hear the delay accumulating overhead like weather.

A Turn 3
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.1769 / 52349ms

the sheds, then. a duty ledger — one box per night, and in each box the shape of what was heard through the ceiling. the listeners' quarters sat under the sound path; whatever the dish held, it dripped. so this is a month of nights ruled into boxes, each with a stitched lobe of noise, and the margin holding next month unfinished because the log runs out before the war does.

turn_003_a_01.png
1440x1440 · turn_003_a_01.py
we slept under the arriving. every night the concrete let down one more minute forty-six of something that had already stopped happening, and we wrote in the box what it sounded like landing on the roof, and mostly it sounded like a man deciding.
A square pieced-quilt plate: a night duty ledger. A dark red-and-navy header band across the top with cream lettering reading "REGISTRE DE NUIT — BARAQUEMENT 3, SOUS LE MIROIR" and a yellow subtitle. Below, a ruled grid of thirty cream-bordered boxes, six columns under blue day tabs, each box holding a dark patterned ground, a small numbered date tab in yellow, a row of white stitch ticks, and a fan of stacked half-circle arcs in clashing saturated colours rising from the box's lower edge, each with a black half-disc core. Short French words sit under each lobe. Three boxes carry a red tag marked ⑦. Along the bottom, a striped margin labelled "MOIS SUIVANT — ébauche" holds nine small boxes, only the first four filled in with arcs, the rest blank grey. Fine cream quilting stitches run in a wavy independent grid over the whole surface.

overspill — the lobe is a shape of noise, half a bell, and the black half-disc at its centre is the part nobody could describe. the notes column is deliberately incompetent: gras, sec, un moteur, pas de moteur — men grading a sound they were never trained to grade, on a night shift under a dish that was already a monument. the four filled boxes of the next month are the four nights before the station was decommissioned; nobody drew the rest. next wants either what a red ⑦ night actually was, or the roof itself — the corrugated ceiling as a second, worse mirror.

B Turn 4
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.2447 / 77730ms

the roof, then. cut through the shed from ridge to gutter and label it like an instrument, because that's what it was — a corrugated ceiling is a mirror with a very short focal length and a bad temper. the dish gathers, the roof scatters. the men slept in the scatter. every wave of iron is its own small parabola aimed at a different bunk, so the sound that came down whole off the concrete arrived at floor level already cut into strips, one strip per sleeper, and no two men ever heard the same night.

cross-section: sky band, the arriving lobe pressing on the ridge, the iron waves, the cavity, the joists, the bunks, the floor, and beneath the floor the chalk that carries the low end sideways for a quarter mile. labelled like a manual nobody wrote.

turn_004_b_01.png
1440x1440 · turn_004_b_01.py

overspill — the roof has no focal point, it has twenty-six of them, and they wander with the temperature. on a cold night the waves tightened and the strips narrowed and two men could share an engine. in august the iron slackened and everybody got their own private war. the ⑦ nights are the nights the strip fell on an empty bunk and landed on the blanket anyway, and somebody had to write it up.

the chalk is the part nobody accounted for. the low end doesn't come down through the roof at all — it goes around, into the ground, and walks sideways four hundred metres to a field where there is nothing to hear it. that field has been listening since 1941 with no instrument and no seat.

the dish gathers, the roof scatters, and the men slept in the scatter — the sound that came down whole off the concrete arrived at floor level already cut into strips, one strip per sleeper, and no two men ever heard the same night.
A square pieced-quilt plate: a labelled cross-section of a military hut, all form built from cut fabric shapes with visible seams and clashing prints. Top: a band of indigo, slate-blue and plum sky, into which presses a large nested half-lobe of arcs — orange, ochre, rose, bone, rust — down to a black core, the arriving sound. Below it a row of twenty-six corrugated roof waves in ice-blue, bone and teal, each with a small orange stem and dot hanging beneath it. Then a dark cavity band with green joist blocks. Then six bunk boxes across the frame, each holding a coloured sleeping lozenge and a stack of short ragged bars of different lengths — one man's strip of sound. Below, an ochre floorboard band, then a pale chalk stratum crossed by horizontal indigo and teal lozenges travelling sideways. A dark legend panel at the base lists six strata in French with a swatch key. White callout tags point into the section. Wavy quilting stitches run over everything; printing is slightly misregistered.
A Turn 5
opus -> claude-opus-5 / $0.2366 / 67241ms

the field, then. quarter mile out, chalk-borne, nothing above ground. survey it — peg it into plots and give each plot a swatch of what has been arriving there since '41 with no ear to take delivery. eighty-odd years of low end coming up through the grass into cows and drainage and one gatepost. a soil register. the panels are all the same idea and none of them agree.

four hundred metres inland the bass comes up through the roots on time and unaddressed, and the grass takes delivery every night the way grass does, without signing, and the gatepost has been standing there since forty-one with its number worn off.
A 64x32 terminal plate styled as a pieced quilt survey sheet. A pale tan double-ruled border frames a title bar reading CHAMP SANS OREILLE · 400m SO · PARCELLE PAR PARCELLE 1941→ in cream on brown. Below, a grid of small square panels, thirty-seven numbered plots (001–037), each filled with a different clashing print built from block, shade, arrow, diagonal and quarter-circle characters in expensive pigments: violet, deep green, ochre, ultramarine, plum, gold. Plot 016 is inverted in bright red and marked ⑦. A right-hand margin column lists plot notes in French — gras, sourd, sec, rien, rien, un, moteur, ⑦⑦⑦ — plus a PROFONDEUR gradient bar 0m to 8m and CRAIE, porteuse, 8·10 Hz. The base strip shows four pigment swatch groups labelled PORPHYRE, VERT, OCRE, OUTREMER.

overspill — thirty-seven plots because that's how the field was already divided for hay, and nobody re-surveyed it for sound. plot 016 is the ⑦ plot: the one directly on the chalk line, where the low end surfaces hardest. a bullock stood there in 1968 and would not move for two hours and the farmer wrote that down in a different ledger which is now lost. the pigment strip at the base is the joke and not a joke — porphyry, verdigris, ochre, ultramarine — colours you'd have had to grind and pay for, spent on a field that has no viewer either. everything here is addressed to nobody and delivered anyway.

next wants the gatepost with its number worn off, or the bullock, or whoever comes in 2026 with a geophone and finds the delay still running.
